Proceed to the top of the hill for wonderful view of Lake Magadi plains of the Nguruman and Uaso Ngiro rivers, Lake Natron etc. Later on proceed to shalom picnic site for relaxing and also a place to meet the local people.
What to Expect:
You will be picked up from Nairobi City Centre or your residence at around 800am and drive south west towards the Ngong area. The first thing that strikes you as you come up the hill is the enormous size of the windmills. They look glorious in their white color just littered along the hillside. The view of the undulating hills on the horizon sits as real as a painting with the hues of blue and green appealing to the viewer. The green grass offers a perfect location for a picnic under the clear blue skies. Ngong’ hills is a very popular weekend walking/ Hiking destination for guests including school groups, hikers, picnickers, professional, amateur runners and worshippers. The hills can become quite busy over the weekends. The highest peak on the knuckle-shaped Ngong hills isat 2460 meters/ 8070 Feet above sea level, and the whole mountain range is a gazette forest reserve covering an area of over 21,000 square Kilometers. The Ngong Hills featured in the film Out of Africa, which was based on the book of the same name by Karen Blixen. Karen Blixen suggested the name “Ngong” came from the Maasai word for knuckles and indeed the row of hills do look like a set of knuckles. Some hikers Climb the first 3 hills and then return back to the starting point; however, it’s encouragedclimbing all 7 as hill 4 and 5 are quite easy. It is actually more difficult to go back than finishing all hills – besides you get the most outstanding views of the land and the rest of the hills as you go further. The hills were a favorite place for Blixen and Finch Hatton to go hunting, especially for lions. The lions are gone now though, so it is safe to walk and enjoy the same beautiful scenery the couple enjoyed 100 years ago. Your guide should be able to point out where Denys Finch Hatton, Karen Blixen’s lover, was buried. Your guide will pick you up at Kona Baridi ‘the cold corner’ which will be your last point. Proceed for a drive back to your Residence / City Centre.
