Description
The tour covers the modern city Centre, the National Museum and the adjacent Snake Park, Parliament Buildings, the Railway Museum where old steam locomotives are exhibited including the one from which Superintendent John Lyall was takenfrom by a man-eating lion in Tsavo in 1901. You will also visit the city market where a wide variety of African curios and tropical fruit and flowers are on sale, a visit to the Kenyatta International Conference Centre view-point, ending with a walk in Uhuru Park.
Kenyatta International Convention Centre. (KICC): KICC is a 105-metre high, 28-storey building in the central business district of Nairobi. One of the most comprehensive views of Nairobi without barriers is from the rooftop of the KICC which also doubles up as the helipad. The helipad which is a circular structure with a pretty low guardrail around it, puts travelers right in the middle of the action by giving them a stunning 360-degree view of the cityscape. The helipad is all the way up on the 28th floor. To get up there, one has to take the elevator to the 27th floor and then take several flights of stairs to the top. From up here, you can see the contrast between the different skyscrapers. You can also see the Nairobi National Park. In between the buildings and further out of town, in the surrounding suburbs, you get to see the greenery. It feels magical, a feeling that is perhaps intensified by the height that makes one feel somewhat detached from the activities down at the base.
Nairobi National Museum aims to interpret Kenya’s rich heritage and offers a one stop for visitors to sample the country’s rich heritage both for education and leisure. In addition to the museum, visitors are treated to a variety of shopping and dining facilities, as well as botanical gardens that offer a serene environment. The museum is open on all 356 days throughoutthe year from 0830hrs -17300hrs. Built in 1929, this is the flagship museum for the National Museums of Kenya, housing celebrated collections of Kenya’s History, Nature, Culture and Contemporary Art.
Nairobi National Park (Not included in the City tour):A short drive out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park.
