Lake Nakuru National Park Tour

Description

Lake Nakuru lies in the volcano strewn rift valley. One of the chains of 8 lakes which stretch the length of Kenya from Tanzania to Ethiopia. The 160 kms drive from Nairobi passes through highland farms ofthe Kikuyu people before descending an escarpment into the dramatic landscape or the rift valley. Lunch is taken in the park and is followed by an extensive tour of the park. On the return journey to Nairobi, a stop is made at Lake Naivasha where tea is taken among trees and where bird watchers will be delighted in the fantastic array of bird life.

Lake Nakuru Daytrip: Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingo’s and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley. The sight of the at times millions of flamingos is quite spectacular. From a distance the lake appears ringed in pink. The Lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species- particularly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lions, waterbuck, buffalo and baboons are residents here as well.
Program:

Be picked up from Nairobi City Centre/ your Residence very early in the morning at around 0700hrs and drive along the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Traffic permitting, your drive to Lake Nakuru will take about 3 hours and takes you to the bottom of the Great Rift, with a stopover at View Point to enjoy the scenic views of the world’s largest rift. On arrival at Lake Nakuru National Park, you will start your game drives viewing black and white Rhinos, Zebra, Waterbucks, Leopards, Buffalo, brightly painted Rothschild Giraffes and many birds. At midday you reach Lake Nakuru Lodge from where you view animals passing just outside. Have lunch. At 1400hrs, make one more game drive to view lesser flamingos covering the Lake’s shores before heading back to Nairobi. Marking the end of the day tour.
